Coal mine worker medical assessment

All employees and contractors that are working on a coal mine site in Queensland or NSW are required to undergo a Coal Mine Workers Medical Assessment. This assessment is conducted before employment and periodically during employment.

The medical assessment consists of four different sections and involves a review of medical history as well as a physical assessment. During the physical assessment, a range of tests will be completed which can include:

  • Height, weight, body mass index
  • Vision Tests
  • Audiometry
  • Chest x-ray
  • Abdominal assessment
  • Cardiovascular assessment
  • Urinalysis
  • Spirometry
  • Musculoskeletal assessment
  • Respirator fit test
